This
test, commonly known as a BMD, is an X-ray-like screening of your
bone to find out whether or not you have osteoporosis, a bone-weakening
disease that affects primarily postmenopausal women and also strikes
some elderly men.
The test can also indicate whether you're at risk for developing
osteoporosis, and can be used to track bone density changes over
time.
While traditional X-rays can show visible bone thinning, the
newer BMD tests are much more accurate and can measure small percentages
of lost bone density. About 20 years ago doctors used regular
X-rays to look for osteoporosis, but they could pick up changes
only after a 25 to 40 percent drop in bone density -- by which
time the disease is already far advanced. But today machines called
densitometers, which expose you to only one fiftieth the radiation
you'd get in a chest X-ray, can detect as little as a one percent
bone loss.

An
X-ray examination uses electromagnetic radiation to make images
of your bones, teeth and internal organs. Simply put, an X-ray
allows your doctor to take pictures of the inside of your body.
One of the oldest forms of medical imaging, an X-ray is a painless
medical test that can help your doctor in diagnosis and treatment
— even in emergency situations. It's a fast, easy and safe way
for your doctor to view and assess conditions ranging from broken
bones to pneumonia to cancer. Many different types of X-rays,
such as bone or chest X-rays, exist. The type your doctor uses
depends on what part of your body is being examined and for what
purpose.
- User friendly radiographic equipment,
which is beneficial to the patient.
- Both facilities are IDNS certified.
- SPecial angulations and different techniques
settings, as requested by the referring physician.
- Load bearing or spine views for chiropractic
patients.
- Routine next day reporting or in emergency
situations verbal reports are available. Whether we are doing
studies for routine pre-employment or complex specialty views,
our goal is to conveniently and economically provide the highest
quality service.
